Internationally known Native American artist/carver Nathan Jackson was selected to design the second set of personnel hatchcovers for downtown Seattle.  He handcarved a traditional Native American design – a Tlingit Whale motif – in wood, which was later fabricated in cast iron at the Olympic Foundry in Seattle.  This object is the rubber casting mold used in the process of casting. Thirty-two hatchcovers were made, measuring from 32 to 36 in diameter.

Mr. Jackson is a member of the Chilkoot-Tlingit tribe
