This work is a transition piece. I had been creating quilts for 10 years when I made it. It was a result of my living and walking often in the city where I discovered surfaces and patterns formed by natural and unpredictable weathering. Wooden fences, painted walls and old building facades yield to the laws of nature and circumstance with an unevenness and variation that intrigue me. I made the piece by individually stitch-resisting and weathering (discharge dying) each small section and then sewing them together to make the larger 'apparently aged fragment.' –Artist statement
