Joyful is a reflection of the happiness and comfort that we feel when connected with our families and our communities. I painted different aspects of the major NW Coast crests to show the unity of all the peoples. There are colors and shapes to symbolize parts of the whole human family as well. The pillar shape represents the strength of the unity, but because it is hollow, it can always fit more joy. –Artist statement
