Description: Flyers features fifteen kinetic steel sculptures mounted on poles at three locations in the new park area of Westcrest Park. Each grouping features a unique design that varies in size and height above the ground. Each “Flyer” can rotate 360˚ and turns into the wind that is characteristic to this park’s location.
Artist Statement: Flyers is a celebration of flight and pays tribute to Seattle’s aviation heritage. The artwork is inspired by daily air traffic of airplanes passing over West Seattle from SeaTac International Airport and Boeing Field, and birds from Westcrest Park’s proximity to the West Duwamish Greenbelt. The three groupings of sculptures are a blending of bird and airplane forms.
Location: Westcrest Park, 9000 8th Avenue Southwest, Seattle WA 98106
