This print is in the shape and style of the side of a bentwood box, which was made by the peoples of Southeast Alaska and Coastal British Columbia, especially the Tlingit, Haida and Ts'msyen peoples. The carved and painted designs would depict an ancestral crest of the lineage that owned the box. The design would wrap around the sides. Crest boxes held ceremonial regalia, blankets, and clan treasures.
