My family is from the northern Indian State of Punjab and Sikhs by religion. One of the first things the early Punjabi immigrants had to do was remove their turbans and cut their hair. The turban is very sacred to the Sikhs and remains a very strong symbol of who I am and the sacrifices my family made in those early years. I am interested in capturing the history I do not know as well as the stories I have heard since childhood. –Artist statement
