Night-in-Gale (Edition 5/40)

This print is a synthesis of information about the natural world.  Much of the time, I use images taken from the world that surrounds me.  Rather than paint them in a strictly realistic manner, I interpret them in ways that heighten their symbolic meaning.  Moths, butterflies, birds, and other animals are painted in a naturalistic style, often in near silhouette fashion.  A dreamlike state is enhanced by the appearance of a great variety of biomorphic and anthropomorphic shapes that relate ambiguously to both the horizon line and the sense of depth in the print. –Artist statement
