Artist Statement: This design brings together two elements – pattern and the innate beauty of a simple object, in this case the flower.  The use of bold representation calls upon the viewer to notice the mundane – to begin to pay attention to the everyday beauty that surrounds us.  The flower is placed against a circuitous repeating patterned background, seeming “electric” providing a clue to the contents below.  The placement of bold Northwest flowers on top of the geometric pattern speaks of the collaboration between technology and nature. The text “CITY LIGHT, CITY BRIGHT” is a little mantra for Seattle and an acknowledgement of the functions/efforts of City Light that allow us to engage in our beautiful city with ease.
