Magenta Room (ed 1/40)

This is my second portrait of this room in the small mountain town of Alamitos de los Diaz, in San Luis Potosi State.  A doorway in the center of the image leads to the kitchen of the house and is flanked by two traditional devotional images.  The family felt embarrassed because they had not repainted or cleaned the walls in several months.  Smoke stains from the wood fueled kitchen are visible both in the kitchen and on the walls and ceiling above the door of the main room.  This staining shows the passage of time and long presence of the family and adds to the beauty of the image. –Artist statement
