Since the Renaissance, painting has been, for the most part, about illusionary space. That is, depicting something as if one were looking through a window at it. In the twentieth century, the concept of illusion has been challenged and replaced to some degree by artists who make no attempt to fool the eye. These artists paint in a way as to remind the viewers they're looking at a flat, painted surface in this work, the artist walks a line between the two spaces, our real space and an illusionary one.
