Toedtemeier's black and white photographs depict the ever-changing yet persistent beauty of the Northwest's basalt formations. Through his camera lens he chronicles these workings of natural forces through centuries of geologic time. Although he works as the photography curator of the Portland Art Museum, he continues to work with geologists and can easily describe the complex processes that created the rugged terrain of Oregon and Washington.
