Artists primarily work with light. Before glass was revived as the primary media for Northwest artists to explore the abstract, prismatic qualities of light, Anderson made monolithic columns of acrylic plastic that were contradictory by being both massive and delicate, colorful and transparent. Anderson showed extensively in the 1970s and 1980s in West Coast and Canadian galleries. He was awarded a M.F.A. in sculpture from the University of Washington in 1973.
