The animal imagery comes from the Native American myths of spiritual, psychological and physical transformation. In Native traditions all animals have traits which are esteemed. For example deer are considered sincere, hawks and eagles are accurate and sharp, bears have fortitude, coyotes and ravens are pranksters. By no means are these animal spirits one dimensional . . . coyotes are also good problem solvers- since their attention spans are so short they usually have overflowing ideas.
