Artist Paul Horiuchi was commissioned by Seattle Center architect Paul Thiry to design a mosaic mural for a planned outdoor amphitheater. The artwork was first conceived by Horiuchi in torn paper collage, then reworked as a two by five foot painted cartoon. This was enlarged to full scale, then refabricated in large, irregular glass tiles that were cemented into 54 panels and shipped to Seattle from Venice, Italy. The panels were fastened with cement to a freestanding 60 foot long cycloramic wall.
