Fossil Fuel reflects my interest in art’s ability to influence modes of observation and interpretation in everyday life and the unique ways in which digital tools can impact that, when possible prodding viewers to approach photographs not as records but as intentional, fully made things. These concerns determine my digital darkroom’s reliance on practices used in film photography, primarily cropping, burning and dodging, and color and contrast adjustment, as well as more marginal techniques like multiple exposure, as in Fossil Fuel, or long exposure, all with precision far beyond what is available in the film darkroom. –Artist statement
