Portrait of Carolyn Downs

Carolyn Downs (1953-1978) was a member of the Seattle Chapter of the Blank Panther Party and a dedicated community organizer. Portrait of Carolyn Downs is part of the Seattle’s Black Icons project. Ms. La Faye is a painter, an author and a community social justice art educator focused on chronicling the African American diaspora. As an evolving socially driven artist her life's work is about agility, inclusion, and processing creativity. Adrienne has shown and exhibited work across Washington, nationally and has won numerous awards, fellowships, residencies and is a teaching artist for K-12 and adults. –Artist statement
