"First, the glass is shaped at the end of a steel rod using steel and wooden tools. The solid-worked glass is then cooled over a period of days in a kiln. The head is originally sculpted in the negative in wet sand. The cooled solid-worked glass is positioned in the sand and powdered color is sifted into the mold. A steel box containing the mold is loaded in to the kiln. The mold is slowly brought up to annealing temperature. The box is removed and hot glass is ladled into the mold. The finished piece will be revealed when everything has cooled.
. . . even though I've been creating work in glass for quite some time, my enthusiasm for it never diminishes. Each piece has its own persona waiting to emerge." –Artist statement
