I recently came across a quote attributed to the philosopher Dagobert D. Rune: “People travel to faraway places to watch, in fascination, the kind of people they ignore at home.” This spoke to me as a prompt to re-imagine the current crisis of homelessness in Seattle in another context. The Encamping series of mixed media paintings is an exercise of misplacing the displaced; it is meant to discourage our fixation on the banishment of homeless people from public spaces, and to instead dwell on positives to nomadism as an adaptive response to ones environs. –Artist statement
