Spark

Spark is from my 2020 calendar. It is the image for February of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic became real and Seattle was the epicenter. But I did not know that when I created it. I was thinking about Spring and how every February a Golden-crowned Kinglet ends up flying into a window at my home. And every year there is this intimate moment of holding the bird safe and sharing it before it is let go, a moment of connection and wonder at the edge of wildness. And now this moment is part of the collection of Seattle City Light. Spark has found an appropriate home. –Artist statement
