Two roses interplay over a branch of small flowers in shades of blue and pink. There is a saying- “Give us our roses while we are still here” - which reflects the reality that Trans People face high rates of violence due to gender identity. Black Trans Women are disproportionately affected by violence. Roses become a symbol of mourning, but this saying asks us to advocate for Trans People to live long lives, and receive our roses while we are alive. As a nonbinary person, this work, in a color palette that plays off the Trans flag, expresses a desire for roses to be given while we are still here. –Artist statement
