In this body of work, the use of materials is linked to mining and water. For example, the kiln-fired glass mosaics use a chemical reaction between lead and selenium at high temperature to create the blue-grey glass line drawings further emphasizing our connection to mineral extraction.

Winze explore underground and open-pit mining and mineral extraction. In underground shafts, caverns, and connecting tunnels illuminates dark passageways and open-pit mining exposes minerals to air and rain. The blue colors in the mosaic drawing are created by a chemical reaction at high temperature between two white glass bodies, further exploring extracted minerals.–Artist statement
