The inspiration behind Undulating Currents is the significant connection between the fluidity of water and the flow of electricity. Our region is unique in being able to harness the forces of water in the form of hydroelectric power, serving an essential resource for life. I'm drawn to the metaphor of electricity flowing like a river and all the people who took part in the evolution of our region are like the electrons flowing through that stream of wire.
Undulating Currents refers to SCL infrastructure, metering and where/how our power is generated. It visually illustrates the fluidity and wildness of the river to then circumnavigate, be captured, metered, and to yield electricity.
Artist Statement: Towards the west side of the artwork resides several small round glass modules. This represents SCL metering and infrastructure. The slightly round conical shape illustrates the connection with the ubiquitous glass bezel form of the electrical meter we are all accustomed to seeing. The shape also references the junction boxes, outlets and switches illustrating a vast network of electrical services. The color of the glass forms will be reminiscent of the old slightly blue cast glass insulators of times past.
