Nina Ferrari's drawings explore the identity of areas of greater Seattle that she refers to as pockets. Such areas as Belltown, Rainier Valley, White Center, the International District, Ballard, Tukwila or Kent, and Georgetown are used instead of the more popular seven hills of the city. The series includes the artist's personal response to these areas and more generally her investigation into Seattle's history and how the pockets presently relate to the gestalt of the city. The drawings reveal physical characteristics that result from a juncture of mankind and the environment.
