Pacific Mermen

Pacific Mermen is one of a series of works where I have depicted mythical and legendary creatures native to the Pacific Northwest. In this particular version, I have flipped the expected anatomical arrangement by presenting a fish torso with an anthropomorphic lower half. Stylized references to Japanese painting traditions are evident in the turbulent water as well as the shimmering and repetitive scale patterns on the fish. –Artist statement
