Description: A combination of media on weathered paper, mounted on canvas, depicting images of cherished object provided by people who work in the courts.
Artist’s Statement: Choosing to “hear” the natural: the paper used for this work was placed outside and weathered in order to record an “environmental imprint. An object of thought and attention: interested Municipal Court employees lent me toys from their lives which for them carry special meaning; the objects act as personal and cultural connections to the work which I hope will forge a link between this community of people. Giving consideration: animal symbolism and “myth” directed me to select certain animals and habitats whose histories have been formative to our definitions of justice, and to the human practice of being just.
