Description: Colorfully and whimsically adorned, Monad Elohim’s ceramic sculpture, Sleepy Goat, rests peacefully atop the Madrona Library’s stacks.  With splayed legs, drooping head and soft smile, Sleepy Goat captures the early moments of sleep when dreaming begins.  The round opening located on the back of the goat also allows it to function as a vase.  Elohim, a long-time Madrona resident, created Sleepy Goat as a part of his Dreams series, which features sleeping animals conveying his belief that everyone possesses the possibility to make their dreams a reality.

Artist Statement: When I created Sleepy Goat I made its eyes closed.  This symbolizes the power of concentration and how it can be used to make dreams come true. I feel that if a person can dream positive thoughts, and visualize them with consistency of effort, it may eventually materialize in this world. I tried to convey this symbolically when I created Sleepy Goat. Sleepy Goat looks innocent to convey the beauty of the feelings of peace and love. In creating Sleepy Goat I was trying to show the unity or oneness of all things and how we are connected together.  This means we depend upon and are responsible for one another. I tried to show this by putting faces on the shoes of Sleepy Goat to show the connectedness of people.
