Pacific Rose

Drawn in a style so loose that the shapes tumbling across the paper's surface can hardly hold themselves together, this ambiguous scene fails to define itself as landscape or architecture, garden or table top. In such an open-ended realm, the only real elements -- the feather and the rose -- fail to define themselves as part of nature or props in some disjointed interior. It is the artist's prerogative to offer up stable or disorienting images, and the viewer's prerogative to either attempt to decipher them or not.
