Description: Robert Montoya’s acrylic painting is the only work at the Daybreak Star Arts Center painted in the traditional style of a Southwest Indian tribe. This painting is done in the style of the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico. Montoya is said to be illustrating the strong religious significance placed by the Pueblo on the deer and the respect given toward an animal so necessary to sustain human life. Reference to the spiritual significance is made by the “prayer feathers” of eagle fluff placed on the heads of the deer. The feathers match those worn by the hunter. The words soe-khuwa-pin in the lower right portion of the painting are the artist’s name, “Fog Mountain.”
