The subject matter in Weight of Endurance is very personal to me. After almost three decades in South Asia, I returned to a very changed Seattle and America. Due to several reasons, my source of employment was through a day-labor charity. Because of this, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse population. It has been a struggle, but so much more for a multitude. Most mornings before work, I have coffee near homeless shelters. We have gotten to know each other. To sum up why I came up with the title of this painting, I quote one man “Every morning I wake up—WHY?" –Artist statement
