I wanted to create imagery that would not only symbolize my own experience in the often insular and hierarchical environment of the ‘office,’ but would also be charged by its exhibition in a work space that could amplify its impact. In situ, the various implied relationships between the three male power brokers and the manacled female might strike a receptive cord in workers who find themselves keyboarding in view of these simple but loaded gestures of greeting, parting, dismissal and restraint. –Artist statement
The artist has attempted to incorporate various ambiguous optical pattern systems such as military camouflage and color-vision test charts with, or contrasted against the seemingly objective yet highly abstract and thus transmutable logic of written language and photomechanical reproduction. The viewer, challenged to discriminate between each pictorial system from the tapestry of forms, receives a succession of sign systems vying to dominate the same perceptual space.
