This is not so much realism as hyper-realism. The focus is so clear that it does away with the normal effects of light and atmosphere that would occur in nature. It is not possible for objects to be of equal clarity in foreground, middle ground and background. That un-real clarity of focus turns this into almost a dream image. One curious aspect of the painting is who are those people named in tiny letters at the bottom of the painting on the separate leaves of grass?
