I am intrigued by the long shot, the notion that human aspirations that seem impossible could actually come to pass, in spite of their improbability. Recent work has been particularly influenced by the longing and desire for transcendence in contemporary life. I allude to these ideas in pigment prints constructed from multiple images into alternative realities. Life on Mars contains a balloon floating over a Martian landscape. The balloon is filled with air, a reference to breathing and a sense of readiness and refreshment. It is not quite identifiable. It could be a visitation from Earth or evidence of Martian life. The Martian image was taken by a NASA Rover on a mission to Mars (raw Mars image data courtesy of NASA/JPL/Cornell) and was improved and altered by the artist. –Artist statement
