I have been painting with watercolor for more than 30 years. I work mainly from life, both in the city and in rural Northwest landscapes. Over the years my work has become increasingly economical, in that I use fewer brushstrokes to convey the essential aspects of the subject. I enjoy tipping the form/content balance more and more toward pure form, coming as close as possible to losing the nature of the subject. Since my work remains realist- based there is always a visible context. Given the associations that accompany such a setting and out tendency to ascribe meaning whenever we can, I am curious about how little need to be specified for the viewer to still get all the information he or she need to read the story. –Artist statement
