Fire and water fill our fairy tales, moral admonition, fantasy and nightmares. Place Set, Lost Place is taken from The Book of Telling, a series completed in 1995. I was considering the many pockets of struggles around the world like Bosnia, Rwanda, and the conflicts here at home. I was wondering about individual responsibility in all of it. I decided that in a world of constant shipwrecks we are all fishers of men. It is our job to save each other. –Artist statement
