Artist Statement: illumine consists of a series of 24-inch diameter glass dichroic disks suspended from the ceiling on steel cables. Viewed from all four sides, above and below, the discs create a transparent abstraction of shifting color and light. illumine is the third in a series of artworks created for the new Seattle City Hall. continuum, located on the second floor at the entrance to the City Council offices, uses size, color and shape to create an abstract pattern of archival images on large glass panels to express the people's history of Seattle. return, located in the lobby on a long curving glass wall, uses details of new and old photographic images to create an abstract pattern to express the history of the built and natural environment of the city. illumine, located in the glass tower, uses reflection of the surrounding environment to bring images of the city and its people into the City Hall building.
