Arriving from the east, this view at the termination of Interstate 90 is the first view one has of the City. It was one that had interested me for many years but it was not until I stumbled upon this view from the Twelfth Avenue Bridge during one of my numerous walks, that the painting started to materialize. I returned to paint at this location on every clear day from three until six in the evening during the summer of 2004. Though I have included vehicles in past paintings of highways, what interested me most about this composition were the subtleties and quiet gracefulness of these massive structural curves. –Artist statement
