Nancy Mee, a longtime Seattle artist works with fused glass, photographic imagery and various metals using the stark formal properties of geometric form and the juxtaposed imagery of the distorted and idealized feminine body.  Early on, Mee became fascinated with x-ray photographs of victims of curvature of the spine, or scholiosis.  She began to draw upon her experience with printmaking and drawing by juxtaposing onto glass the x-rays with images of idealized feminine beauty.

The spine has always been a strong metaphor for me,” says Mee.  Copper, steel and/or wood soon encompassed the layers of glass plates or chards, providing a structural protection and a contrast between the straight and deformed. –Artist statement
