Mary Van Cline is typical of artists who have made the Northwest the center of contemporary glass art in the United States today. After receiving her art education concentrated in other modes of expression, she became enthralled with the properties and methods inherent to glass. She came to the northwest to attend and then teach at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood. Her works blend romantic and mysterious photographic images applied to traditional, utilitarian objects, such as the silhouette of a classical water vessel.
