Abstractions like this one are not about anything other than the attempt on the part of the artist to arrange the visual elements so that the visual weights of the shapes and their colors are perceived by the viewer to be in balance. It is visual problem-solving...almost visual engineering. Oddly, this visual problem-solving very often triggers an emotional response in the viewer so that they might describe an abstract work in words like soothing or violent. It's curious how colors and shapes, even when they are not used to depict the world we know, can still affect us emotionally.
