Solstice Dance

Portland artist Lucinda Parker has investigated abstraction since the early seventies.  Her trademark compositions of organic and geometric shapes are richly colored in high contrast to her black and white gestures.  Her overlapping forms and hints of perspective suggest volumes in space. She usually paints large, dynamic canvases that successfully combine a strong geometric foundation with exuberant paint handling.  Although this painting is much smaller than her usual work, it expresses the same power.
