Description: Stylized root patterns have been sandblasted and stained into the concrete floor below the Snaking Root Ceiling.
Artist Statement: The artistic interpretation of a cross section of vine maple tree roots serves to bring the snaking patterns of nature inside the Cedar River Watershed's Welcoming Room. Continuing the root metaphor- holding and sustaining a tree (life), while extracting and carrying the water to the plant, the pattern also reminds us of the dendritic patterns the water makes as it seeks out the lowest point, as well as evoking the site's namesake, Rattlesnake Lake.
