Everyone approaches the world from exactly where they are.  This piece explores plane geometry and gravity, two ways of approaching or understanding the world.  The cup rotates through space; there is no up or down.  There is no "proper" placement of the tiles, they form an environment for the cup.

The four tiles each present a two-dimensional representation of one of the four sides of the tetrahedron that is the basic shape of the cup. Their surfaces have either the flat planes of the tetrahedron or the positive and negative curves of the cup "handle".  The tetrahedron is made of four equilateral triangles, each 8" on a side. Each tile is an equilateral triangle, 16" on a side, or four times the size of one side of the cup.  They can be arranged to make a larger equilateral triangle four times the size of each tile, or not. –Artist statement
