Magnolia Pod (AP)

My decision to work with a subject is often sparked by an immediate connection which is metaphoric in nature.  On finding a fallen magnolia pod, I was struck by the way its forms suggest both male and female sexuality.  To make the image accessible emotionally I enlarged the object, allowing myself and the viewer to step inside that particular world.  The lighting reveals just enough information to convey a sense of its structure and mystery. –Artist statement
