Description: Consisting of a number of artwork elements throughout the T-117 Adjacent Streets Project, Conduit includes: A series of sidewalk stamps along Dallas Ave S; Five enhanced seating platforms featuring cast polyurethane resin tops and form liner designs at 16th Ave S, 17th Ave S and Dallas Ave S; A large vertical polycarbonate mural at 17th Ave S & S Donovan St.
Artist Statement: Thematic threads in Conduit connect it to the T-117 Adjacent Streets Project, the mission of Seattle City Light’s Green Initiative, and the Duwamish basin. The “grid of lights” in the vertical sculpture reflects the infrastructure that Seattle City Light supports, and references the woven fishing weir historically used on the Duwamish. The circular images in the artwork elements illustrate cut ends of high voltage cables, suggesting the interconnected strands of a community bound together, and the constant flow of energy. The surface patterns of water and the colors used throughout bring to mind water’s central role as the primary energy source for Seattle City Light, and the history of the Duwamish River.
