Kamari bright is a St. Louis-born creative who was inspired to create to better understand herself and surroundings. Experiencing the erasure and misrepresentation of African American contributions within the United States, Bright chose to reclaim her cultural narrative utilizing fashion for the “Royaltee” project. The pieces “& They Call…” and “…To One Another” reunite Black culture with Black bodies by highlighting the “tall tee.” Concepts in these works include belonging, majesty, and reclamation. –Artist statement
