Bach

This artwork comes from a series of smaller drawings combining the sculpture of Franz Messerschmidt with historical portraits of musicians, artists, writers, and patrons. In this series, I make use of existing portraiture, as well as invention. The acquired drawing is titled Bach, and is an imposition of a Messerschmidt Character Head on to a well-known portrait of the composer. This series is meant as not only an homage to the subjects, but also a consideration of the flux of identity and history. –Artist statement
