Stumps II, Alder Lake, Nisqually River, Washington, near Mt. Rainier, is photograph of a man-made lake that rises and falls due to the creation of the La Grande dam. In early spring the water level is low and reveals the clear-cut stumps stretching across the lake. The scene graphically illustrates the sense of surreality evoked by the alterations humans are inflicting on our planet. Though created for recreation and aesthetics, the damage that it took to create it is unintentionally revealed. –Artist statement
