Pretty Paper

Painted in the spirit of celebration for the rich variety of a global community, Pretty Paper features paper bills from around the world and through time. Compositionally, it suggests the tightly woven economic strands that make us one world, while individually, each bill offers imagery of national pride that make us unique and sometimes at odds. To consider the value of another country’s accomplishments may be to realize we are all much the same. As we gradually move in the direction of impersonal, digital currency, I am already experiencing a nostalgia for these pretty slips of paper. –Artist statement
