Constellation: An Origin Myth is part of a larger body of work titled "Inanna," named after the Sumerian goddess who was part of a pantheon preceding Judeo-Christian monotheism. I started this work when I hit middle age, wanting to portray stories about myself that reflected strength and an acceptance of aging and the cycle of life and death. I photographed parts of my body close-up with a macro lens, which magnifies flaws, scale and texture, then drew into the images with a digital stylus using pictures from my photo archive. I've printed most of the images larger than life, wanting to reflect a scarred, yet heroic portrayal of the female body. . . –Artist statement
