Description: The artwork, “Engine 32 ½”, consists of a large-scale fabricated steel version of a wooden toy fire truck. The artwork is modeled after the original Engine 32, 1924 Seagrave Apparatus that operated out of this station for many years. The artwork is a custom designed and fabricated idealized version of a real vintage fire truck built to ½ scale with a toy-makers detailed aesthetic.

Artist Statement: Engine 32 ½ is a fabricated steel site-integrated sculpture. Designed to inspire and reflect the surrounding community, Engine 32 ½ is a nod to West Seattle fire fighters of the past, and an inspiration to the future fire fighters of tomorrow. Engine 32 ½ acknowledges and celebrates the inherent connection between emotion and memory within children of all ages.

I now work mostly in metal. I have found that art is enhanced when people join to create it. Art is something that you experience using all of your senses—sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch, balance, temperature and proprioception.
